Individual table cloths and coasters

Helloooooo!!

We are back with new project after a loooooong break :)
The first one is a set of individual table cloths and coasters.

I made them as awards for the tapas and cocktails competition I organized in last May.

When I saw this fun fabric in Encants Vell market of Barcelona, I bought it without thinking what to do with it. After all, who doesn't like cupcakes, right?

Making these tablecloths was easy, all I had to do was to cut the fabric, and saw the edges.

For the back side of the coasters, I used different fabrics that matched the color of the cupcake of each one, I put a hard filling (Friselina) between the two fabrics and overlocked the edges with the zigzag option of the sewing machine.

It ended up being an ideal project for the event. First, we enjoyed delicious and creative tapas,

After we votes for the best ones, and the winners were these 3 creative girls:

I hope you enjoy them!!! :)

It is very simple to make and I really love these colors.

Check this pattern if you want to make one. It is not exactly the same, but it is very similar.

Happy crafting!

Educational toy for kids

Here comes the first design created by Crafts in Colors! =)

It is a fabric black board with stripes of velcro, where colorful felt letters can be attached. It is made as an educational toy for kids who are learning to write and read.

It was a gift for Maia, a 5-year-old girl who is just starting to read and write simple things.

We prepared it in a way that it can be packed as a small bag, so it is easy to carry around and it occupies less space.

The letters can be place in a bag and put in the middle of the fabric.

Then, the fabric is folded in a way that the letters stay exactly in the middle.

Finally folded again and wooop it closes as a small bag with super cute penguins (fabric from Ilovekutchi shop) !!

If you want to make one, you can find the explanation in this tutorial.

Since it is designed by us, please remember to give a link to Crafts in Colors when you create a toy using this tutorial. Thank you!! =)

Fabric black board & letters tutorial

Is your kid starting to write and read?

This can be a good toy to entertain them: a blackboard with sticking letters that can be fold into a small bag.

It is really easy to make. Here is what you need:

- 2 fat quarters (or a bigger fabric if you prefer)

     - 1 fat quarter black or a solid color (this is where the letters will stick)
     - 1 with design (this will be the outer side of the bag)

- 1.9 m long velcro (or 4x45 cm) (only the sticky side)
- 1 button
- 1 small hair lastic
- Small fabric (apx. 10 cm x 3 cm) to make a handle
- Different colors of felt to make the letters

If you have everthing, let's start:

1. Cut the velcro into 45 cm pieces and sew them to the first fat quarter leaving the equal space between them
2. Fold the small fabric that will be the handle into two and sew the end. Then, with the help of a safety pin turn inside out.
3. Sew the handle and button to the second fat quarter as shown in the figure.

 4. Put one fat quarter on top of the other, right sides facing each other and place the hair lastic in between.

5. Sew around the fat quarters, leaving a part to turn inside out.
6. Close the non-stitched part with hidden stitch and it is ready!!

7. For the letters, you can cut stripes of felt (I used 6 cm height stripes) and cut the letters from these stripes. Remember to make multiple copies of each letter. First, you might want to check the letter frequency in English or the language of choice in order to make more copies of the frequent letters, and less copies of the non-frequent letters.

This is how it should look like:

Good luck and don't forget to mention Crafts in Colors when you use this tutorial!!

Bibs

These bibs were my Christmas presents for a little boy.

The fabrics are from ilovekutchi shop. And I covered them with transparent plastic to make them easier to clean and prevent these beautiful fabrics from staining. For the back part, I used towel to make them softer.

Now he can eat a lot and grow :)

Pot holders

I made these pot holders as a gift to my friend Gizem. Very easy to make and would be a perfect gift for a coffee lover ;)

It is made with this beautiful fabric from Artesanato that has squares with a different coffee related picture in each one. And the squares have a perfect size to make pot holders!!!
