Is your kid starting to write and read?
This can be a good toy to entertain them: a blackboard with sticking letters that can be fold into a small bag.
It is really easy to make. Here is what you need:
- 2 fat quarters (or a bigger fabric if you prefer)
- 1 fat quarter black or a solid color (this is where the letters will stick)
- 1 with design (this will be the outer side of the bag)
- 1.9 m long velcro (or 4x45 cm) (only the sticky side)
- 1 button
- 1 small hair lastic
- Small fabric (apx. 10 cm x 3 cm) to make a handle
- Different colors of felt to make the letters
If you have everthing, let's start:
1. Cut the velcro into 45 cm pieces and sew them to the first fat quarter leaving the equal space between them
2. Fold the small fabric that will be the handle into two and sew the end. Then, with the help of a safety pin turn inside out.
3. Sew the handle and button to the second fat quarter as shown in the figure.
4. Put one fat quarter on top of the other, right sides facing each other and place the hair lastic in between.
5. Sew around the fat quarters, leaving a part to turn inside out.
6. Close the non-stitched part with hidden stitch and it is ready!!
7. For the letters, you can cut stripes of felt (I used 6 cm height stripes) and cut the letters from these stripes. Remember to make multiple copies of each letter. First, you might want to check the letter frequency
in English or the language of choice in order to make more copies of the frequent letters, and less copies of the non-frequent letters.
This is how it should look like:
Good luck and don't forget to mention Crafts in Colors when you use this tutorial!!
